In pain right now? Call (909) 625-4900. Renov Dental Group, on N Indian Hill Blvd just north of the Claremont Village, prioritizes same-day appointments during office hours for dental pain and accidents. Care is led by UCLA-trained Dr. Sally Yi, DDS, the office accepts most major PPO plans, and it is known for genuinely gentle care for anxious patients.
Our first goals when you call in pain: see you as soon as possible during office hours (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday), get you out of pain at that first visit, and explain your options calmly — we never pressure decisions on a hurting patient.
What Is Emergency Dentistry?
Emergency dentistry is urgent care for dental problems that cannot wait — severe toothaches, broken or knocked-out teeth, lost crowns, infections, and swelling that signals a spreading problem. We triage by phone, reserve a same-day slot whenever possible, and the first visit focuses on diagnosis and immediate relief, with definitive treatment planned once you're comfortable.
Dental Emergencies We Treat
- Severe toothache or pain that wakes you at night
- Broken, cracked or chipped teeth from accidents
- A knocked-out (avulsed) tooth — minutes matter; call immediately
- Lost or broken crowns, fillings and temporary restorations
- Swelling of the gum or face suggesting an abscess
- Bleeding or trauma after a fall or sports injury
- Wisdom tooth pain and soft tissue injuries
Where to Go: Our Office or the Emergency Room?
Most toothaches, chipped teeth, lost fillings, and localized gum swelling belong in a dental chair — that's what our same-day visits are for. ERs and urgent care generally can't treat the tooth itself; they manage severe pain or infection short-term and still refer you back to a dentist.
Go straight to the nearest ER, or call 911, before calling us, if you have: facial or neck swelling spreading quickly or limiting how far you can open your mouth; difficulty breathing or swallowing; a high fever with significant facial swelling; bleeding that won't slow with firm pressure; or a possible broken jaw or facial trauma affecting your bite, vision, or breathing. These can signal a rapidly spreading infection or airway involvement that needs hospital-level care. Once you're medically stable, call us for the dental follow-up.
Common Emergency Dentistry Options at Our Office
- Same-Day Pain Relief Visits — diagnosis plus immediate relief, treating the source, not just the symptom.
- Emergency Root Canal Therapy — starting treatment promptly when infected nerves cause the pain.
- Emergency Repairs — rebuilding broken teeth and re-cementing crowns until definitive treatment.
- Urgent Extractions — gentle removal when a tooth truly cannot be saved.

While You Wait for Your Appointment
- For a knocked-out tooth: hold it by the crown (not the root), keep it moist in milk or saliva, and come in immediately — ideally within 30 minutes for the best odds of saving it.
- A cold compress outside the cheek helps swelling; never place aspirin directly against the gum.
- Rinse a broken tooth gently with warm water and save any fragments.
- Over-the-counter pain relievers may help short-term — follow package directions.
Risks & Limitations
An emergency visit stops pain and stops a problem from spreading, but it is not always the final fix. A large fracture or advanced infection may still need a root canal or extraction afterward; antibiotics, when prescribed, control infection but don't replace the treatment that removes its source; and a reinserted knocked-out tooth is handled with its best chance of success but isn't guaranteed to stay viable long-term. Many emergencies fully resolve in one visit — root-canal starts and fractures typically need one planned follow-up, scheduled around your calendar.
Preventing the Next Emergency
- A custom mouthguard for sports protects against the most common dental trauma.
- Do not ignore mild sensitivity — most emergencies start out mild.
- Keep routine checkups; many urgent visits trace back to a cavity that could have been caught earlier.
Treatments That Pair Well With Emergency Dentistry
- Root Canal Treatment — often needed when infected nerves are the source of emergency pain.
- Tooth Extraction — when a tooth truly cannot be saved.
- Wisdom Teeth Removal — wisdom tooth pain is a common emergency visit.
- Sedation & Anxiety-Friendly Dentistry — comfort options if fear has kept you from urgent care in the past.
- Dental Implants — a longer-term replacement option once the emergency is resolved.

Insurance & Financing
Most major PPO plans are accepted, including Delta Dental, Aetna, Cigna, MetLife, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, and more. Emergency exams and treatment are generally covered like their underlying procedures (exam, X-ray, root canal, extraction) — we verify your specific benefits before treatment, even on short notice, and explain estimated coverage in writing. Cost depends on what's actually needed, so we do not quote a price over the phone. Patients without insurance are welcome, and Cherry monthly financing is available for qualified patients.
