Our first goals when you call in pain: see you as soon as possible during office hours (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday), get you out of pain at that first visit, and explain your options calmly — we never pressure decisions on a hurting patient.

Emergency dentistry is urgent care for dental problems that cannot wait — severe toothaches, broken or knocked-out teeth, lost crowns, infections, and swelling that signals a spreading problem. We triage by phone, reserve a same-day slot whenever possible, and the first visit focuses on diagnosis and immediate relief, with definitive treatment planned once you're comfortable.

Most toothaches, chipped teeth, lost fillings, and localized gum swelling belong in a dental chair — that's what our same-day visits are for. ERs and urgent care generally can't treat the tooth itself; they manage severe pain or infection short-term and still refer you back to a dentist.

Go straight to the nearest ER, or call 911, before calling us, if you have: facial or neck swelling spreading quickly or limiting how far you can open your mouth; difficulty breathing or swallowing; a high fever with significant facial swelling; bleeding that won't slow with firm pressure; or a possible broken jaw or facial trauma affecting your bite, vision, or breathing. These can signal a rapidly spreading infection or airway involvement that needs hospital-level care. Once you're medically stable, call us for the dental follow-up.

• For a knocked-out tooth: hold it by the crown (not the root), keep it moist in milk or saliva, and come in immediately — ideally within 30 minutes for the best odds of saving it.
• A cold compress outside the cheek helps swelling; never place aspirin directly against the gum.
• Rinse a broken tooth gently with warm water and save any fragments.
• Over-the-counter pain relievers may help short-term — follow package directions.

An emergency visit stops pain and stops a problem from spreading, but it is not always the final fix. A large fracture or advanced infection may still need a root canal or extraction afterward; antibiotics, when prescribed, control infection but don't replace the treatment that removes its source; and a reinserted knocked-out tooth is handled with its best chance of success but isn't guaranteed to stay viable long-term. Many emergencies fully resolve in one visit — root-canal starts and fractures typically need one planned follow-up, scheduled around your calendar.

Emergency exams and treatment are generally covered like their underlying procedures (exam, X-ray, root canal, extraction) — we verify your specific benefits before treatment, even on short notice, and explain estimated coverage in writing. Cost depends on what's actually needed, so we do not quote a price over the phone. Patients without insurance are welcome, and Cherry monthly financing is available for qualified patients.
